Modern manufacturing segment faces challenges like never before. New product innovations, emerging technologies and the need to be more environmentally friendly put pressure on manufacturing operations to stay competitive. For manfuacturing equipment to stay operational under the extreme conditions it endures every day, such as high temperatures, extreme pressures, moisture, vibration, corrosion and erosion over 24-hour operation it is especially important to use high-quality lubricants.
We deeply understand the challenges and root causes of issues and failures in machines and operations. This helps us work with our customers in solving the problems they face and provide sustainable solutions to meet customers objectives.

Circulating Oil
Customer
The company, a pulp and paper manufacturer in China, produces approximately 300,000 tons of packaging paper each year. Post 2015, a surge in online shopping within China spurred a rapid growth in demand for packaging paper, prompting the company to invest in new production lines.
Challenge
The company built a new paper machine in 2019, aiming for a longer oil drain interval of about five years during continuous operation and well-trained staffs in lubrication management to enhance efficiency. Having already used PETRONAS Gear MEP 220 and PETRONAS Hydrocer 46 for two years and noting performance improvements, the company opted to employ PETRONAS Circula PM 220 in their new paper machine.
PETRONAS Expert Solution
PETRONAS developed a cost saving calculation table which demonstrated how PETRONAS could assist the customer. Along with the Diagnostics (Oil Analysis) program, our team was able to demonstrate the benefits of oil analysis and advise the customer on the condition of their equipment. PETRONAS also provided Equipment Lubrication Training session for the staffs in lubrication management to enhance efficiency.
Result
Ever since the customer began using PETRONAS Circula PM 220, the noise pollution from the paper machines significantly decreased. After attending the Equipment Lubrication Training sessions, the staffs also improved the maintenance and lubrication of the paper machines. Most lubricants used by the company’s new paper machines are PETRONAS products.

Compressor Oil
Customer
The company, based in Italy, is a prominent manufacturer of plastic, rubber, and silicone components specifically for medical applications, with a global reach. It boasts a robust manufacturing network consisting of eight production facilities across the world, catering to a diverse customer base in 65 countries.
Challenge
PETRONAS was tasked to propose an alternative solution to its compressor oil currently in use to reduce the maintenance costs and protect the components of the equipment from excessive wear, thereby extending the equipment’s service life. Due the critical nature of their processes, which are exclusively for the medical sector, PETRONAS is to recommend a product of the highest quality that would satisfy the technical, qualitative, and financial requirements of the proposal.
PETRONAS Expert Solution
Following an oil analysis, PETRONAS Compressor A SYN PAO 46 was recommended as the solution. This high-quality oil, formulated with synthetic-based polyalphaolefin (PAO), is enhanced with advanced antioxidant, anti-wear (zinc-free), anti-rust, and anti-foam additives. It ensures superior control over oxidation and residue deposits, as well as optimal thermal and oxidation stability, for enduring performance. It also meets the demanding performance standards required by the industry.
Result
PETRONAS Compressor A SYN PAO 46 met the required expectations without any technical or application deficiencies, proving suitable for its intended use. It maintained excellent internal surface cleanliness, controlled the formation of oxidation deposits, and ensured a longer equipment lifespan compared to standard lubricants.

Heat Transfer Oil
Customer
The company is a global parts supplier for light and heavy vehicles, as well as agricultural and construction equipment headquartered in Brazil. It also specializes in producing vehicle carpets. Their manufacturing process includes shaping and cutting the material to precise specifications for assembly line integration.
Challenge
The company had been using a competitor's heat transfer oil (HTO) for three years, replenishing it minimally, without a full replacement. Due to sustained high-temperature operation, the oil underwent severe oxidation and its viscosity increased. This resulted in inefficient heat transfer and start-up delays because the oil's high viscosity impeded proper circulation. Analysis of the oil sample confirmed these issues of high viscosity and oxidation. The equipment's manual also did not state the HTO specification nor the oil drain interval (ODI).
PETRONAS Expert Solution
PETRONAS HTO 32 was recommended for the company’s heat transfer system. We also suggested flushing the heat transfer system before filling it with PETRONAS HTO 32. Flushing procedure: (i) run the heat transfer system for four hours with the existing product in use at the operating temperature of 240°C and then drain the system; (ii) fill 1,000 liters of PETRONAS HTO 32 and circulate it at operating temperature for 4 hours and drain the system once again; and (iii) fill the system with 2,000 liters of PETRONAS HTO 32 Batch D461K755 and begin production process.
Result
PETRONAS HTO 32 is currently used by the company and PETRONAS constantly monitors its performance to ensure no deposits are forming. It was demonstrated that when the product’s viscosity increased above 10%, a partial replacement of 20% of the system’s total volume will be carried out. This viscosity increase limit is set to prevent oxidation and reduce heat transfer.
